No account, no upload, no cookies

Most “free online recorders” are a sign-up funnel with a recorder attached. OneTake has no account system at all: the page captures, encodes and stores everything on your device, and there is no upload endpoint to call.

Start recording → Free · no account · nothing is uploaded

How to do it

  1. Open the pageNo login wall, no email field, no trial banner.
  2. RecordScreen, camera and audio are captured with browser APIs.
  3. StopThe file is written to IndexedDB on your machine.
  4. Verify it yourselfOpen DevTools → Network while recording; the only external request is the analytics beacon.

What “100% local” actually means

Capture uses `getDisplayMedia` and `getUserMedia`; encoding uses `MediaRecorder`; compositing happens on a canvas in the page; storage is IndexedDB. No step sends pixel or audio data anywhere.

The site does load one third-party script: Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookieless and reports aggregate page views only. Block it and the recorder still works.

Why we do not ask for an account

An account exists to store things server-side and to identify you. We do neither, so an account would only be a data liability.

The cost of that choice is real: there are no share links and no cross-device sync. You get a file, not a workspace.

Frequently asked questions

Is it really free?

Yes — no paid tier, no trial, no card. There is nothing to upsell because there is no server cost per recording.

Do you use cookies?

No. The response has no Set-Cookie header at all; preferences live in localStorage.

Where do my recordings go?

Into IndexedDB in your browser, until you delete them. They survive a refresh or a closed tab.

What is the catch?

No cloud, no share links, no editing timeline. If you need those, Loom or Cap are better fits.
