Record one window, not your whole desktop

In the browser’s share picker, choose “Window” and pick the app you want. The recording follows that window — other windows can sit on top of it and will not appear in the file.

How to do it

  1. Press “Start recording”The picker opens.
  2. Choose the “Window” tabPick the application window, not the screen.
  3. Work normallyOpening other windows on top does not pollute the recording.
  4. Stop from the page or the share barBoth paths finish the take and save it locally.

Window vs tab vs screen

A window capture is the whole application window, including its own toolbars and dialogs. A tab capture is one browser tab, with no browser chrome. A screen capture is everything, including your desktop and notifications.

For tutorials, a window is usually the right choice: it shows the app’s own UI without leaking the rest of your desktop.

When a window recording looks black

If the source window is minimised, some platforms stop producing frames. Keep it visible (it can be behind other windows) and the capture stays alive.

OneTake detects “no frames for three seconds” and tells you, instead of handing you a black video.

Frequently asked questions

Does it follow the window if I move it?

Yes. The capture is bound to the window surface, not to a fixed screen rectangle.

Can the window be covered by another app?

Yes, as long as it is not minimised. Covered windows still render.

Can I record a window on a phone?

No. Mobile browsers do not expose window or screen capture to web pages.

Does it need an install?

No. It is a web page; nothing is installed and no extension is required.
